Joan’s Farm and Pumpkin Patch

It’s that time of the year again, Pumpkin Patch! I promised the kids to take them to Pumpkin Patch this weekend and we went early this morning to Joan’s Farm and Pumpkin Patch in Livermore. It opens at 9.00 am and we got there at 9.30 am. We went there last year around 2-3 pm and it was too crowded and really really dusty. I didn’t enjoy it last year but I’m curious to see what they have this year. So, this year, I decided to go really early to avoid the crowd and hot afternoon weather.

As expected, it was still pretty cool and not too many people yet. It also was not as dusty as I remembered. Even though I didn’t enjoy much last year, I remember that the place is pretty big and it has a nice setup that you can take nice pictures. Also, of course, lots of things to do for the kids. It has corn maze, hay ride, truck ride, slides, pony ride and some games. For each attraction, it costs $4 per person and cash only. For corn maze, kids under 4 years old is free. Pony ride is $6 per ride. For the slide, $4/person for 3 slides down. Other than that, it has quite a lot of seating area, it’s a nice place to meetup with friends. But I still won’t do any playdate here (unless my husband comes along and he can watch the kids =)) since the place is pretty big and the kids are easily running around to other open area. As for stroller, it’s not the perfect road to bring a stroller since it’s not nicely paved and it gets pretty dusty.

I let my kids picked 2 things that they would like to do there. They rode the truck ride which only went around really slow on an empty land. I didn’t find it interesting at all, but my kids like it. In fact, Catherine said she likes that better than the corn maze because it drove through a “tunnel” in the end (see the green thing on the right on the first picture below). I guess whoever came up with the idea of this ride knows kids very well…hahaha.

I like the corn maze. I find it really fun to walk around inside the maze and tried to find our way out. The kids were having a blast running around and took turn to be the leader along the way to find the exit. If you need a time to kill and tried to burn your kids energy, this is a pretty good activity to do that…hahahaha.

We stayed there until 11 am. The weather started getting hot and a lot more people started to come. This time was definitely far better experience than last year. I’m sure it’s because we came really early; nice weather and much less crowd. It’s a little far from the freeway but it’s worth a visit if you’re looking for a place for a weekend activity with the kids.

Here are some more pictures from our visit this morning:
